My name is Rachael Cheever.
I have been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Mexico, Puebla South mission! I received the call on November 13, 2013, and I report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on April 2, 2014. I am setting up this blog for my mom, or some other kind soul to whom I delegate the task, to post my weekly updates on my experiences serving the Lord!
Why serve a mission?
I have pretty much always wanted to serve a mission, but why? I love this church, I love the Book of Mormon, and I love people! I also love Spanish. I know that being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or being a Mormon, has definitely affected my life in a positive and uplifting way. I want to be able to share that good feeling with other people. If nothing else, I want to make sure that people know that our Heavenly Father and His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, love them and want to help them. I want people to know that they are not alone, and they don't need to fear. I want to serve a mission because I want to help other people, and I want to do my best to give back to the Lord what He has so graciously given me. I know that I can never repay Him for the love, kindness, mercy, and care He has given me. As a testament of my love, devotion, and dedication, though, I am more than willing to put aside all personal affairs and put my life fully in the capable and enabling hands of the Lord as I serve Him and His children in Puebla for the next 18 months!
My Testimony
I know that my Heavenly Father lives and loves me. I know that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sins and to overcome the powers of death and mortality that we, the human race, may return to live with Them in all Their glory and power. I know that by following the example Jesus set while on the earth, and by heeding the words of all His prophets, we can gain eternal life and exaltation. I believe the motivating power for all this is Love. I know that Christ loves us and wants the best for us. I know that because of that love, He and the Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in 1820 to restore the true order and authority of Christ's church to the earth once again. I know that the Book of Mormon was written, preserved, and eventually translated by the gift and power of God. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the one true and living church upon the face of the earth. I know that Jesus Christ will come to the earth again. I know that He continues to call prophets, seers, and revelators to guide and direct His people. I know that when we follow the Lord's commandments, He blesses us.
I testify of these things in the sacred name of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, amen.
I look forward to seeing the blog throughout your mission. I am so happy you are serving the Lord on a mission. Our prayers are with you.
